Format:
The tournament will be conducted in a knockout format.
If a player wins a game, they will proceed to the next round. If they lose, they are eliminated.
The only exception to the above rule is the semi-finals. Even if a participant loses in the semi-final, they will play one more game to decide who wins the 3rd place.
Some players might get a bye in the first round and will enter directly in the second round.
Game Rules
There are a few strict tournament rules that must be followed by parents and participants.
Parents should not help their kids during the game.
During the game, if a participant touches a piece, they MUST move it.
Once a move is played, you cannot take it back. It is done.
Who plays White and who plays Black is pre-determined and will be told at the start of each game.
If a game ends in a draw, the opponents will play another game with colors switched.
The next round of games will start as soon as the players are available.
If a game lasts more than 30 minutes, we will introduce a Chess clock. How the clock works and what the players must do will be explained at that time when setting up the clock.
During the game if anyone has a question, please raise your hand from your seat, and one of the judges will come over to help out.
Things to remember
Please bring your own Chess set.
Please ensure all pieces are there beforehand so there are no surprises during the tournament.
When starting the game, please ensure the right hand corner on the Chess board is a White Square.
Please ensure White Queen is set up on the White square and the Black Queen is set up on the dark square.
FINALLY, please remember to have fun!
